The Delhi to Leh road distance is around 1000 km and is covered over two full days of driving rather than in one stretch, usually with an overnight halt at Manali or Sarchu depending on the route taken. The altitude gain is significant, so the staged drive also serves as acclimatisation before you reach Leh.

An eight day Delhi to Leh Ladakh trip costs 90,000 INR in the 9 Seater Maharaja, 12 Seater Maharaja, 16 Seater Tempo Traveller or 12 Seater Urbania, and 1,05,000 INR in the 20 Seater Tempo Traveller or 16 Seater Urbania. Packages start from 80,000 INR including driver fee, fuel cost, state tax and toll tax.

It works out very economical because the vehicle cost is shared across the whole group. On a 12 Seater at 90,000 INR for eight days, a full group brings the per person transport cost down to a fraction of what individual travel would cost over the same distance, and that figure already includes fuel, driver, state tax and tolls.

Leh sits above 11,000 feet and several passes on the route are higher still, so the first day in Leh should be kept light for acclimatisation.
